Skydive from 15,000 Feet in Memory of Ginny
On the 22nd August 2015 Lindsey & Fiona of LaddersFree Window Cleaning Services plucked up the courage to jump out of a plane and sky dive from 15,000ft, managing to raise over £3000 for St Margaret’s Hospice.
They did this in memory of their much loved friend and colleague, Ginny McKeown, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Here are a few words from Fiona and Lindsey
“Earlier this year we were devastated to say goodbye to our lovely Ginny, who had bravely battled with cancer. Lindsey and I decided to channel our grief into doing something positive in her memory to raise funds for St Margaret’s Hospice, who had cared for Ginny and her family so very well. Somehow we arrived at the idea of jumping out of a plane – something that would be totally out of our comfort zone and therefore quite a challenge.
Lindsey and I arrived at the airfield filled with excitement (and apprehension) and were greeted by friends, family and colleagues who were there to support us and cheer us on. After a little training and waiting around, we were quickly whisked away to get kitted out in our skydiving suits & hats! Just a few minutes later and we were in the plane and taking off. Having climbed up to 15,000ft – the highest you can go without breathing apparatus – the door opened and it was time to jump.
Freefalling for around one minute at over 100 miles an hour was the most craziest feeling we have ever experienced. The cloud was quite thick and cold and seemed to go on forever. Once the parachute had opened, a different experience again. With the parachute up and feeling a little more secure, we sailed through the silent sky chatting with the instructors who were strapped to our backs and taking in the amazing views of the Devon coastline.
All of a sudden it was over and we found ourselves lying on the ground staring up at the sky. We had landed and had safely completed our jump for Ginny!
Saturday 22nd August saw us experiencing one of the best days of our lives, an experience that will stay with Lindsey and I forever. We are proud to have raised over £3250.00 for St Margaret’s Hospice and to have achieved this in honour of Ginny.
We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who sponsored”.
